Badgers Come Up Short in 5-4 Loss to Bradshaw Mountain: Sports Roundup

A good crowd was on hand for the first of two games this week in the rivalry matchup between the Bradshaw Mountain Bears and the Prescott Badgers.

Freshman Ty Young hit a home run and the Bears added two more runs in the fourth inning to overcome an early deficit to beat the Prescott Badgers 5-4 in Prescott Valley.

The Badgers jumped ahead with two runs in the top of the first. Ivan Schuster doubled and scored. Nick Martin singled and scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on an error, scoring a run on an RBI triple by Garison Jones.

Prescott got the run back when Jacob Patterson scored after reaching on an error, when Colton Champion grounded out, picking up the RBI for a 3-1 lead.

Bradshaw Mountain pulled within 3-2 when Drew Strader singled and then scored on an error in the third.

The fifth inning saw the Bears score three times to take a 5-3 lead beginning with Young’s homer. Donovan Bayard and Kolton Pratt both scored on a single by Jones, giving Bradshaw Mountain a two run lead.

Prescott came up for the final time and had runners at first and second with nobody out. Travis Gates singled to right. The Bears then pulled starting pitcher Jeremy Reynolds, bringing in reliever Isaiah Avila. Patterson greeted Avila with a single to right, setting the table with the tying run now at first. After a called third strike, Champion came up and walked to load the bases. Schuster hit a ground ball up the middle where the second baseman was able to get the force out as Gates crossed home plate to make it 5-4. With runners at the corners and two outs, a called third strike ended the potential comeback leaving the Badgers on the short end of a 5-4 score.

Jeremy Reynolds went six innings plus, picking up the win, while Adrian Sanderford tossed five innings and took the loss. Parker Reed took over in the six, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work for Prescott. Isaiah Avila picked up the save for the Bears.

The first Division 4A rankings came out and Bradshaw Mountain is at #4, while the Badgers are at #10.

The two teams meet again today at Prescott High School. First pitch is 3pm.

SOFTBALL

The Bradshaw Mountain Bears took advantage of an error to break a scoreless tie in the final inning to beat the Prescott Badgers 3-0. Laila Silva had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Haedyn Wright also had a douible and an RBI. Kayda Fringer had an RBI single.

Kodee Statler dominated Prescott by striking out 18, allowing only a single and a walk to earn the win.

Gracie Pereira took the loss while striking out seven. Pereira also had the only hit for Prescott.

The Division 4A rankings came out for the first time this season and the Bears are listed at #21, while the Badgers are at #30.

The two teams will meet again today at Bradshaw Mountain at 3:45 pm.
