Lightning-Caused Wildfire in Prescott Valley
On the afternoon of July 8, 2025, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) responded to a reported wildland fire near 10123 E. State Route 69 in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Initial reports indicated the fire may have been caused by lightning from recent storms in the area.
Upon arrival, crews discovered approximately 1/10 of an acre burning in light grassy fuels on a south-facing slope, with flame lengths ranging from one to two feet. Windy conditions contributed to an active perimeter.
Engine 540 quickly deployed, working alongside Engine 53 to contain the fire. Their swift response, along with a monsoon storm that moved through the area shortly after arrival, limited the fire’s spread and protected nearby buildings from further risk.
A Task Force from the Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM), based in the Prescott Basin area, responded and assisted with mop-up operations. CAFMA then turned the incident over to the DFFM Task Force Leader for training purposes. The Prescott Valley Police Department provided traffic control to ensure the safety of both responders and the public. CAFMA extends its thanks to all involved.
CAFMA reminds community members to stay alert during monsoon season, as lightning and dry fuels can increase wildfire risk. Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see unusual smoke or flames.
