Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Deploys LifePak35 Heart Monitor/Defibrillators

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) has deployed new Stryker LifePak35 heart monitor/defibrillators on every engine and ambulance. These state-of-the-art monitors greatly enhance crews’ ability to assess patients, communicate with hospitals, and deliver life-saving care in the field.

“September marks an important step forward in our ability to deliver high quality emergency care,” said CAFMA EMS Chief Doug Niemynski. “With the LifePak35, our paramedics can see a clearer picture of what is happening with a patient’s  heart, share that information instantly with clinicians, and make critical decisions faster. That  means better outcomes for the people we serve.”

What This Means for the Community

  • Smarter heart attack detection: Helps firefighters identify heart attacks earlier and with greater accuracy.
  • A clearer picture of the heart: Allows paramedics to see details of the heart they could not before, leading to faster recognition and treatment.
  • Real-time updates to hospitals: Crews can stream patient data directly to the Emergency Room, preparing doctors before patients arrive.
  • Faster CPR response: Prepares to deliver shocks automatically, minimizing pauses in compressions and keeping hands on the chest where they’re needed most. • Beyond the heart: Tracks vital signs like breathing, oxygen levels, and blood pressure for a complete picture of patient health.

Benefits for Hospital Teams

  • 12/15-lead live view: Provides a 360° perspective of the heart right on screen.
  • On-screen calipers: Enables precise measurements during patient evaluation.
  • STJ Insight graph: Tracks ischemic changes with enhanced views, trend monitoring, and automated alerts.
  • CPR Insight: The only FDA-approved algorithm that reads rhythms during compressions, advising “shock” or “no shock” with minimal interruption.
  • Customizable medication lists with timers: Streamlines workflow and supports timely interventions.
  • Live hospital streaming: Enables seamless communication between CAFMA crews and hospital teams.

CAFMA firefighters are all certified as EMTs or Paramedics and undergo rigorous training in  both Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support. With the addition of the LifePak35, they  now have one of the most advanced tools available to first responders, ensuring the highest  level of care for patients.
