The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) is asking for your help in keeping our community safe. With Stage I Fire Restrictions in effect, the sale and use of consumer fireworks are prohibited. This important measure helps reduce the risk of wildfires in our area and is enforced under Arizona Revised Statutes § 36-1606, subsection 2(b).
Since January 2025, CAFMA has already responded to more than 20 wildland fires, many of which were preventable. Dry vegetation, hot temperatures, and steady winds continue to create dangerous fire conditions. Even one spark from a firework or sparkler can quickly escalate into a fast- moving wildfire. Stage I Fire Restrictions are enacted to reduce the chances of human- caused wildfires, which can rapidly grow and threaten homes, property, and lives.
“Fireworks may seem like harmless fun, but under dry and windy conditions, a single spark can cause devastating consequences,” said Darrell Tirpak, CAFMA Fire Marshal. “We want everyone to enjoy the summer safely, and that means finding safer, legal alternatives to fireworks.”
What’s Not Allowed Under Stage I and Stage II Fire Restrictions:
- Sale of consumer fireworks
- Use of consumer fireworks (including sparklers, fountains, and novelty items)
Instead of lighting fireworks at home, consider attending one of the many professional fireworks shows hosted by area towns and cities. These displays are conducted under strict safety guidelines and offer a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the season. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about current fire restrictions, practice defensible space around their homes, and report any suspicious fire activity to local authorities immediately.
CAFMA thanks the community for supporting wildfire prevention efforts. By honoring fire restrictions and skipping consumer fireworks, you’re helping prevent wildfires, protect homes and neighborhoods, and ensure the safety of your firefighters and first responders.

Fire, has anyone gone up Senator Highway, driven on Highway 69 or White Spar Road? The sides of the roads are covered in four foot high weeds and dead brush. Someone tossing a cigarette out a car would ignite a MAJOR fire! Who is responsible for taking care of these areas? Residential citizens are keeping their properties “Fire Wise” but a large fire from the above mentioned areas will set an entire community or even the town on fire. Someone needs to do what is necessary to get these thousands of acres cleared out. If they are owned by the City or personal residents then they need to be fined for every day the properties are not “Fire Wire”.
I can’t agree more with Timothy H, The City of Prescott is NOT fire wise at all. Prescott is a catastrophic fire just waiting to happen.
Timothy and Mr. Rigbey, today there was a small wild fire on Highway 69 across from Costco. The fire department is only a block away and quickly responded to put out the fire. What if this had been further away from a fire department? I too have observed all of the overgrowth on the sides of our roads and highways and something needs to be done before it is to late.
