The Prescott Badgers completely dominated the first half in a 56-7 win over the La Joya Community Lobos.
The game started 30 minutes late because La Joya Community left later than they should have on a holiday weekend and were stuck in traffic. That was the least of their problems as the Badgers scored six touchdowns in the first nine minutes of the game. It was literally a jaw dropping experience to see all the scoring that came in a lot of different ways. Six different Badgers scored touchdowns. It was so bad you could almost hear the La Joya Community crying uncle.
The Lobos received the opening kickoff and lost ten yards on three plays and were forced to punt. The punt was partially deflected by Dustin Davis which sent the kick out of bounds at the La Joya 22. Three plays later Adam Lloyd scored the first of his two touchdowns on a two yard run with 9:20 on the clock.
La Joya Community coughed up the ball and it was recovered by Cooper Kasun at the Lobos 13. Isaac Briseno took the ball to the home sideline for a seven yard score for a 14-0 lead with 8:27 left in the opening quarter.

The Lobos coughed the ball up again, this time Gunnar Parra was right there for the fumble recovery at La Joya six yard line. Lloyd ran the ball in six yards untouched for a 21-0 lead with 8:15 on the clock.

La Joya managed to hold onto the ball but were forced to punt again on another three and out. The first play from scrimmage quarterback Uriah Tenette aired it out to Josiah Peoples for a 77 yard touchdown play and a 28-0 lead with just under seven minutes to play still in the first quarter.
The mistakes by the Lobos kept on coming. The lead then increased to 35-0 when Brody Hanna stepped in front of a Jared Molina pass and Hanna returned the ball 47 yards for a pick six. After the game Hanna said, “We were on this type of coverage where I split the trips, and I was in the right place to take advantage of the pass. It was a good night for us out here on opening night in front of our home crowd.”

Johann Gundermann ran past the defender and Tenette placed another perfect pass to his receiver who bolted 79 yards for an astounding 42-0 lead just eight minutes into the game. The kickoff with 3:51 left started a running clock that would make it a one and three quarter hour game.
The Badgers scored two more times when Tenette rushed the ball in from 12 yards out and Peoples returned a punt for 66 yards with just under seven minutes to play in the second quarter to lead 56-0. Peoples said, “On the punt, I just beat the defender to the edge, and had to fight through another defender to close it out. That was a lot of fun tonight. I could not wait to get out here and play. It is my senior year and I want to leave it all on the field.”
The quick second half saw mostly subs for Prescott who failed to score, but in the third the Lobos got on the board when Jayden Quick ran a punt return back for a touchdown.
The Badgers offense was led by senior QB Uriah Tenette, who completed 4-8 for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Tenette said, “It felt good to be back out here and to get the win at home. This was my first contact since I missed the scrimmage so it felt good to be back at it. I thought we did some good things but there is room for improvement. We just need to build on this win going into Thunderbird next week.” Sophomore Eugene Lowe played the entire second half completing four of six. Adam Lloyd scored two touchdowns on five carries for 41 yards to lead the ground game. Defensively, Gunnar Parra, Cooper Kasun, and Brody Hanna, all had big nights terrorizing the Lobos offense. Johann Gundermann was a perfect eight for eight on extra points.
Prescott (1-0) will travel to Phoenix to take on the Thunderbird Titans (1-0) on Friday at 7 pm. La Joya Community will host Empire.
