Wranglers Come Up Short in Glendale 56-49

Photo: John Maldonado scored two touchdowns in amazing fashion last night versus the Arizona Rattlers

The Northern Arizona Wranglers could not figure out Dalton Sneed as the Rattlers quarterback threw for 7 touchdowns as Arizona made it a regular season sweep over the Wranglers with a 56-49 win in Glendale.

The key to the outcome of the game came in the second quarter when the Wranglers gave up three straight touchdowns to overcome a 13-7 Wrangler lead. Arizona scored 21 in a row to go up 35-20 at the half.

The Wranglers pulled within seven numerous times but could not get the one stop they needed to have a chance at coming back to tie.

Joshua Jones threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in a 210 yard performance. Jones also rushed for 56 yards to lead the Wranglers in the ground game. Northern Arizona had more total yardage 268-256 but that is not where it counts.

NAZ receiver John Maldonado had another impressive game scoring on two touchdown passes from Jones, one going high up and over the boards to pull the ball in, and the other he bulled his way through two defenders for the final six yards to score. Kobay White scored his two touchdowns in the second half. One on the ground, and one on a pass from Jones. Arsiah McCorker also had a pair touchdowns, one on a 46 yard catch and a five yard rushing touchdown.

Wallace Cowins led the defense with six tackles. Tramond Lofton had five tackles, and he and Cowins split a sack of Sneed.

Shannon Brooks rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown for the Rattlers, and also caught three TD passes.

The loss snapped the Wranglers winning streak at three and drops Northern Arizona to fourth place in the Western Conference as Arizona moves up to the third spot. The Wranglers will host the San Antonio Gunslingers on Sunday at 3:05 pm.
