Photo: Joe Starika was perfect on the day to win the Class B division
The Mile Hi Horseshoe club held their season finale with the Papa John’s Pizza Open at Watson Lake on Saturday.
Wet conditions started the day for the players, but shortly after things dried up with temperatures around 70*. It was the first time all season that the classes were competitive enough where no handicap was needed. Like bowling, pitchers are given handicaps based on their season average, to compensate when the divisions are more than 10 points from top to bottom. Yesterday, the ranges were only eight to nine.
Steve Harman, from Surprise, just got past Chino Valley’s Hal Handelman to win the overall tournament championship. Robert Chubinsky, also from Surprise, finished third with a win over Harman in the final game of the day. Class B winner was Prescott Valley’s Joe Starika, who swept his class by pitching four plus percent over his average. Ty Frazier, who made the trek from Kingman took second, by also pitching four percentage points over his average. John Barney from Sun City West, ended with third.
