The Prescott Badgers moved to (13-0) with a hard fought win over the Arizona College Prep Knights, Monday afternoon at Prescott High School.
The battles were close, and at times intense. A battle of two of the top players in the state battled it out with Megan Townsend pulling out the win over Ashley Yang. Townsend said, “She is very good, but I think having the home court advantage helped. We will likely see each other in the singles playoffs, where she ranks at three, and I am currently four.” Townsend swept Yang in two close games, winning by three points in the first, and two in the second.
Elle Long, who moved up a spot from #3 to #2, had to work a little extra in her singles match with Fatima Ahmed. Long said, “My best friend Riley wasn’t here today, so I had to move up. It was quite a challenging match. This helped our confidence by winning against a good opponent.”

Lindsay Carter moved up from #4 to #3, and had a little easier time with her opponent. Carter said” This match helped us by preparing us for the playoffs, since they are so good. We have six seniors on this team, and after missing out on the championship, we are motivated to finish what we started. We were so close last year.”
Lauren Farley and Calli Naylor won their first games, but dropped the final two. Breckyn Tubbs slid into the number six spot and was very successful, sweeping her opponent. The Badgers took two of three in the doubles with Townsend and Long sweeping Yang and Ahmed. Farley and Naylor swept the other doubles match for Prescott.
Coach Bobbi Yoder said, “Our number two Riley Crockett was out of town today, so this was a little closer than it would be if she was here. With that said, I think the girls stepped up and ultimately got the job done tonight. Megan Townsend played well tonight in what was probably her toughest competition of the season in the number one spot for singles versus Ashley Yang. Those two will more than likely be meeting up again at individual state for a singles state championship.”
The number one Badgers will host Paradise Valley in their final regular season contest, on Tuesday at 4pm.
