Scam Alert: Puppies for Sale – Prescott Valley Police Department

Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) is reporting that a new scam is making its way through our community. The scam goes like this: an unknown person advertises selling typically high dollar puppy breeds for a ridiculously low price. The seller is always out of the area so the buyer cannot pick up the dog locally. Once money is exchanged and a shipping date for the puppy is established, the seller calls the buyer and asks for more money, calling it a shipping fee. If the buyer refuses, the seller threatens to report the buyer for animal abandonment. Buyers are often out hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

PVPD cautions residents that if a deal seems too good to be true, it is probably a scam. It is a best practice to research a seller or the photo of the pup for sale before sending any money. Often, the same photo of the puppy being purchased can be found across multiple websites for different sellers. PVPD Police Community Services can be reached Monday to Friday 8am- 5pm at 928-772-9261 if a citizen has any questions regarding current scams going through our community.

Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at (928) 772-9267 for non-emergencies, and 911 for emergencies. Yavapai County Silent witness is 1-800-932-3232.
