At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025, the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA), Ashfork Volunteer Fire Department (AFFD), and the Kaibab Estates West Volunteer Fire Department (KEW) responded to a reported vehicle fire on Highway 89, roughly 4.5 miles north of Drake Road.
Upon arrival, crews found a fire within a grinder owned by a private contractor conducting thinning work in the area.
The fire had already extended into nearby brush and a mulch pile, prompting a coordinated response from both departments. Crews quickly deployed hose lines to halt the fire’s forward progress into surrounding wildland.
The scene was later turned over to Prescott National Forest for further management. No injuries were reported.
CAFMA thanks AFFD and KEW for their strong partnership and rapid response, as well as the Prescott National Forest and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office for their support and assistance on scene.
