Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Responds to Wildland Fire Knocked Down by Neighbors

On Thursday, June 15, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) personnel responded to a wildland fire in the area of East Blazing Star Circle in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a ½ acre fire that had been knocked down by neighbors. One neighbor used a tractor to dig a line around the fire in order to stop the spread. A water truck was being used on a construction site just a couple properties away, so another neighbor ran to alert the driver, who drove to the scene and began spraying water on the fire.

Fire crews remained on scene to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished. This fire was started by a lawnmower blade making contact with a rock.

CAFMA would like to acknowledge these neighbors for their quick-thinking in the use of nearby resources to obtain a rapid knockdown which prevented further spread and damage to nearby structures. CAFMA would like to remind community members to remain cautious of attempting to fight fires as there are multiple factors that contribute to fire
spread and the organization would never want to encourage people to put themselves in harm’s way.
