The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) has partnered with the Arizona Burn Foundation and the American Red Cross of Arizona to hold a Community Smoke Alarm Walk in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on October 4, 2025. These collaborative efforts aim to enhance community safety by providing free installation of smoke alarms in high-risk areas.
CAFMA is seeking volunteers to assist in making the event a success.
“We want community members to know that tools and training are provided, and it is a fantastic event for families, friends, and anyone needing volunteer hours.” said Kathy Goodman, CAFMA Community Relations Manager, “No experience is necessary, and breakfast is included. We hope our community joins us in promoting fire prevention and safeguarding lives.”
CAFMA Fire Marshal Darrell Tirpak emphasized the importance of functioning smoke alarms in homes, especially as modern fires burn hotter and faster than before. Regular testing and maintenance of smoke alarms are crucial in ensuring community safety.
“Since launching these Community Smoke Alarm Walks, we have installed hundreds of desperately needed smoke alarms in homes, while also educating many more residents on fire safety. We could reach far more community members with additional volunteers.” added Fire Marshal Tirpak.
Interested volunteers can sign-up through the Arizona Burn Foundation’s website: https://azburn.org/advocacy-and-education/community-smoke-alarm/.
