At approximately 9:55 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2026, the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) and Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire near Palo Verde Street and Cattletrack Drive in Prescott Valley.
The vehicle, which was on fire, was driven across a field, igniting brush in multiple locations before eventually coming to a stop. CAFMA deployed multiple engines to address the vehicle fire and the separate areas of brush that had ignited.
PVPD officers and nearby residents were able to contain or extinguish several of the fires using fire extinguishers and garden hoses before firefighters arrived. CAFMA crews continued firefighting operations upon arrival and extinguished all remaining fires before they could spread further.
When firefighters reached the location where the vehicle had stopped, they extricated the driver from the vehicle. After being assessed by CAFMA personnel, the individual was transported by CAFMA Rescue 58 to Yavapai Regional Medical Center East. The driver was evaluated and released from the hospital before being booked into the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) Jail in Prescott on DUI charges.
CAFMA and PVPD would like to thank the community members who assisted in containing the fires and preventing them from spreading.
Recent moisture has provided a temporary reprieve from the heightened fire danger experienced earlier this summer. However, CAFMA and PVPD remind residents that conditions can change quickly, and dry vegetation can still ignite and spread fire.
Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue practicing fire-safe behaviors, particularly when working or recreating outdoors.
