“True public safety requires a collaboration between law enforcement and the community.” – Betsy Hodges
“Our rights are not absolute. Our rights can be curtailed in the interest of public safety.” – John Kennedy
There has always been a conflict between providing public safety and ensuring that we maintain our Constitutional rights. From the beginning of our emerging nation, when people’s rights were restricted by the enactment of the Alien and Sedition Acts to the COVID 19 mandatory vaccines and the unconstitutional restrictions on our freedoms of movement, practicing our religions and engaging in commerce, the government has always been the biggest threat to our freedoms. That is not to say that on rare occasions, like times of war, some of our freedoms can’t be TEMPORARILY curtailed, but those suspensions should be rare and short lived. We, the people, should closely monitor these situations to ensure that they are not too restrictive and last only until the crisis is over.
The most recent assault on our rights was the aforementioned government response to COVID. In retrospect, we can now see that enactments were unnecessary, unconstitutional, and lasted way too long. Looking back, we can now clearly see the irreparable damage done to our school children, the elderly, our businesses and our nation as a whole. Unfortunately, we, the citizens of the United States, need to do some serious introspection. The way we meekly caved in to those onerous COVID mandates and rules, to coin a word, exhibited the “sheepification” of the population of our country. The good lesson learned from this fiasco is that whenever the government gins up fear to restrict our rights, it is the time to be the most vigilant.
With all of the negative consequences of the COVID disaster, constitutionally, politically, and health wise, one of the positives is that we Americans are emerging from the sheep pen and confronting the asinine policies of the far left democratic socialists/communists. Only idiots, Antifa, and brain washed Democrats would would think that a person could change one’s biological gender with a “nip and tuck” operation or an addendum procedure. They completely ignore the science of XX/XY chromosomes.
Many are of the opinion that the reason for our citizens confronting our so-called leaders at the local, state and federal levels, is that they are sick of how stupid laws are causing us to be unsafe from criminals and transgender advocates. They are tired of the revolving doors that allow arrested felons to get back on the street before the police have even finished their reports. They are tired of woke prosecutors refusing to file criminal charges on crooks and woke judges releasing them with little or no jail time.
Many conservatives who have become more vocal, have been inspired by President Trump and his cabinet members who are addressing problems and other politicians with common sense solutions instead of the conventional, bureaucratic, status quo “solutions” that don’t work. Trump and those in his cabinet are not daunted when confronted by Democrats in Congressional hearings. They answer questions and respond in kind to the contentious accusations of the “disloyal” opposition. It appears that Republicans have finally grown spines.
The best way to maintain the balance between our rights and law and order, whenever they become unbalanced, is to complain loudly and often to our elected officials. We need to write letters to the editor, call into radio talk shows with our complaints with facts and figures. If necessary, join with others and file lawsuits. The old maxim is still appropriate: “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.”

Great essay Buz! Yes, I would only add the influence of “shock” in Charlie Kirk’s assassination. It seems to be another tipping point for a deeper need for our relationship with God and a new and greater “paying attention” to Faith and government.
Charlie’s influence increased quadrupled because of the shock you pointed out, Tom. Thanks
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
~Benjamin Franklin
Franklin was only partially correct and that is why any suspensions of our rights should be “rare and short lived”. On those rare occasions we need to remember the phrase, “The Constitution is not a suicide pact.”
