The Prescott Plaza Hotel is scheduled to be reviewed by City Council on Tuesday, July 8 at 3 pm. Here is a Q & A about why it is coming back to the City again, and what the next steps might be.
Q. I thought the Plaza Hotel was voted down. Why is it coming back to Council? A. The project applicant has changed their design based on feedback received from Council at their March 26, 2024 meeting.
Q. Has anything changed in the developer’s proposal i.e. fewer rooms, lower height, etc.? A. Yes, the most significant changes include a reduction to the number of stories (it is now 4 stories) and the number of rooms, relocating the rooftop terrace to the 4th floor, as well as a reduction to the overall height (it is now 48ft at the highest point). The other changes include adding Juliet balconies to the 2nd and 3rd stories, removing sandstone banding, and the window and entry configuration on the first floor.
Q. What will Council be reviewing at the July 8th meeting? A. The July 8 meeting is a continuance of the appeal that went forward to Council. They will be reviewing project design changes made to satisfy concerns at the March 26, 2024 meeting.
Q. Will they take action at that time? A. This item is for discussion. Formal action may be taken at Council’s discretion
Q. When they do take action, will their action be the “final word”, or can the developer bring this back again? A. Council’s action will be final on the design as presented. The developer may redesign the project for future consideration.
Q. If Council does approve the project, will there be additional public meetings where the project will be reviewed by the City? A. Yes, this project will require a Special Use Permit and Water Service Application approval, both of which require at least 2 public meetings.
Q. If Council approves the project, will the project come back to Council at a later date? Yes, the Special Use Permit and Water Service Application will both require Council approval.
