Prescott City Council Hesitant to Renew the Whiskey Off-Road Event

The City of Prescott has expressed hesitancy in renewing the Whiskey Off Road event and will be reviewing the matter at the next city council meeting on Tuesday, May 13th at 1 pm.

What are the benefits that Epic Rides and the event bring to the community?

First of all, the yearly estimated attendance of over 10,000 people spending $3M+ with our local businesses, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales and accommodations tax, not just during race weekend, but for pre-rides and similar.

The event helps with mountain biking trails development, that benefits bikers, hikers, equestrians, and all other trail users, including $35,000 raised most recently for Bean Peaks in addition to tens of thousands of dollars previously generated.

The event raises money for local non-profits including the PUSD Education Foundation, Yavapai County Food Bank, and Prevent Child Abuse Arizona.

It gives back to our local kids, including the kids fun ride, donating unsold merchandise to Pass It Forward, promoting youth participation in the races, and donations to local race teams and the Arizona Cycling Association.

Hundreds of volunteers are brought together to put on each event, including important activities like trail repair work and cleanup that benefits our entire community long after the race is over.

And, finally the Whiskey Off-Road races provide free entertainment for the area including free concerts and bike expos.

If you are interested in keeping the event here in Prescott, please attend the City Council meeting on May 13th, City Hall, 201 N Montezuma, to show your support and, if desired, speak during public comment.

You can also email the City Council (city.council@prescott-az.gov) and the City Manager (citystaff@prescott-az.gov) about this.

Hesitant to renew!? What in the world would cause anyone on the city council to even consider not renewing it, just from the economic impact it has on the city. I strongly believe that all council peeps should make their views public & citizens should vote accordingly come election time.

    Ron-
Great post. Unfortunately, never underestimate this city council’s stupidity.

Why, why, why!! This is insane. It puts Prescott on the World Map. We need to share our town with others. Does this sound too liberal?

  4. This event only causes major congestion downtown. It does not belong at the Square and should be taken out to an area where the people who want to watch can go. This is just another money maker for the City and is held with no consideration for the people who move around through downtown.

  5. Really makes sense. Support the Frontier Days Rodeo that loses money and cancel the Whiskey Off Road event the brings in mega bucks. So much for business common sense.

  6. Just stop it all together because it’s just a big congestion for our already congested downtown. Keep the mike race and the Rodeo out of town for the sake of the people who live here.
