At the regular Board of Supervisors meeting of February 19, 2025, County Manager Maury Thompson presented a process and schedule for the appointment of a new District 2 Supervisor, following the Board’s acceptance of the official resignation of Supervisor James Gregory. Chair Mallory expressed confidence in the board’s unified approach, stating, “I am pleased that we could come together as a board to unanimously approve what I believe will be a smooth and effective process. I appreciate Vice-Chairman Compton’s motion and Supervisor Kuknyo’s second. I look forward to reviewing all the applications for the District 2 Supervisor position.”
The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors is now soliciting applications for appointment to the position of District 2 Board of Supervisor, effective April 16, 2025. The appointed individual will serve until the individual elected at the next general election, November 3, 2026, takes office. The individual who is elected to fill the remainder of the term may take the oath of office and begin the remainder of the term within ninety days after the canvass of the election.
Individuals seeking to complete the full term of office ending in December 2028 will be required to run for election in the 2026 Primary and General Elections.
To be considered for the appointment, candidates must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be a resident of Yavapai County
- Be an elector of the county or precinct in which the duties of the office are exercised
- Be registered to vote in Yavapai County
- Be able to read and write the English language
According to ARS 16-230, the Board of Supervisors shall appoint a person of the same political party as the person vacating the office to fill the portion of the term until the next regular general election. Supervisor Gregory was a registered Republican.
Interested candidates will be required to submit the following documentation to the Clerk of the Board at clerkoftheboard.web@yavapaiaz.gov by the deadline:
- Letter of Interest
- Resume
- Completed Financial Disclosure Statement
- Conflict-of-Interest Affidavit
All documentation must be received by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The Board of Supervisors will consider qualified applicants and may appoint a replacement for the Yavapai County District 2 Board of Supervisor at its regularly scheduled meeting at 9:00 a.m. on April 16, 2025.
