In response to the ongoing lack of moisture and significantly increased fire danger across Yavapai County, the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, at the regular Board of Supervisors meeting on 3/19/2025, voted to approve an expansion of the annual Free Slash Drop Off Days program.
Originally scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025, the program will now commence two weeks earlier on March 20, 2025, and run through June 15, 2025. This extended timeline aims to provide residents with an opportunity to mitigate potential fire hazards around their properties by safely disposing of accumulated brush and vegetative debris.
“The current dry conditions and elevated fire risk are a serious concern for all of Yavapai County,” said Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Brooks Compton. Supervisor Chris Kuknyo added, “By moving up the start date and extending the Free Slash Drop Off Days, we are giving our residents more time and resources to create defensible space around their homes and help protect our communities.”
The Free Slash Drop Off Days program allows Yavapai County residents to bring their piled slash – including tree limbs, brush, and other natural vegetation – to designated county transfer stations in Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Congress, Mayer, Paulden, Seligman, and Skull Valley free of charge. This initiative encourages residents to clear their properties of potential wildfire fuel, 5 to 30 feet from all structures and remove all debris and dead vegetation from roofs, decks, and the ground, to reduce the potential of a wildfire spreading, and significantly contribute to overall fire safety efforts.
Only the following items will be accepted: brush, branches, grass, leaves and yard trimmings. Items that will not be accepted are lumber, stumps, roots, cactus, metal, and garbage. All slash must be removed from plastic bags. This program is for residential use only. Commercial loads will not be accepted.
