Mayor Phil Goode’s Update for February 20, 2024

At last week’s Voting Meeting,  Prescott City Council voted to approve the Notice of Intent for the increase of water and wastewater rates. This sets into motion a process to consider and possibly adopt new and increased rates, fees and or service charges for water and wastewater services. Costs have increased and we will need to adjust our rates accordingly.

We will hold a Council Study Session on this matter on May 14, 2024 in the Council Chambers at Prescott City Hall. A Public Hearing on the matter is scheduled for May 28, 2024 during the regularly scheduled 3 PM Council Meeting.

The earliest we can take formal action as a Council on adopting any new and increased rates will be immediately after the May 28th Public Hearing.

The newly approved increase in the Water and Wastewater Rates would then become effective thirty days after the adoption of the increases by Council.

Last week, we held a Special Executive Session to interview and consider three candidates provided by a placement service called Interim Public Management for the Interim City Manager Position. However, after much consideration we determined that the City’s best option was to appoint acting City Manager Tyler Goodman as the Interim City Manager. Tyler has been with the City of Prescott since 2016. Initially, Tyler declined the Interim position, but after thought and consideration, he reconsidered. Tyler has the knowledge and experience to lead our City as we search for a permanent City Manager.

Tyler will also have the support of Joe Baynes as his Deputy Advisor as we work through this interim period of time.

Congratulations, Tyler.

In the meantime, I want to extend my personal thanks to all the candidates for their willingness to offer their support for our City.

We had a very productive Council Strategic Planning Workshop last Thursday and Friday. This annual event is a time for Council to consider past and present priorities and goals and also to set new ones.

During this time, we spoke of good governance, public safety, a dynamic economic environment, Infrastructure and our natural environments protection.

We are all excited about our future direction as a City, and look forward to implementing some very actionable implementation plans this coming year.

The Prescott Tourism Office, also known as Experience Prescott, will be accepting applications for Tourism Grants beginning Friday, March 1st, through Friday April 5th at 5 PM.

Tourism Grants are designed to assist registered non-profit organizations hosting events in Prescott between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. The goal of the grant is to encourage event marketing outside of the Prescott area, to encourage overnight visitation. Tourism Grants are funded by the City’s Transient Occupancy (Bed Tax). Events are eligible for up to $5,000, depending on their rating, and how many organizations successfully apply.

If you are interested, there will be a mandatory meeting for all applicants on Wednesday, March 6th at 2:30 PM at the Prescott Council Chambers.
