Red Light Violations Can Lead to Serious Injuries and Even Fatalities – Prescott Valley Police Department

Red light violations are on the rise in Prescott Valley. To promote and ensure the continued safety of our community members and guests, the Prescott Valley Police Department wants you to know that PVPD police and traffic enforcement officers are on the road every day enforcing traffic laws on streets and highways. Besides the possibility of having a vehicle crash with serious consequences, there could be other costs.

• A red-light violation results in 2 points to your license.
• As a result, red light violations can have a larger impact on your insurance premiums than a speeding ticket.
• If you are found responsible for a red-light violation, the court will notify the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). The MVD will then send you a notice requiring you to complete an 8-hour traffic survival school class.
• This class cannot be taken online and must be taken in person, and if you fail to take the class, your license will be suspended.
• Red light violations are charged under A.R.S. 28-645(A)(3)(a).

Safe driving is everyone’s responsibility. If you see traffic violations, contact the PVPD at (928)772-9267 for non-emergencies, 911 for emergencies. Yavapai Silent Witness is 1-800-932-3232. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!
