As part of the Subaru Loves Learning initiative in collaboration with AdoptAClassroom.org, Subaru is adopting 25 classrooms in the Yavapai County school district
Findlay Subaru Prescott partnered with AdoptAClassroom to recognize Yavapai County teachers and present them with a $12,500 donation and 25 additional classroom supply kits during a celebratory event at their dealership.
The donation was made as part of Subaru Loves Learning, a national Subaru of America, Inc. initiative that helps supply high-need classrooms across the country with needed school supplies and resources. Findlay Subaru Prescott’s donation will benefit more than 625 students by providing teachers with $500 each to purchase supplies for the school year, in addition to the Subaru school supply kits that include pens, pencils, markers, dry erase markers, earbuds, wipes and more.
“At Findlay Subaru Prescott, we want to help our local teachers and students get excited for the upcoming school year—and make sure they have all of the supplies they need,” said Dave “Mac” Macfarlane, general manager at Findlay Subaru Prescott. “Giving back to our local community and living the Subaru Love Promise is an essential component of our operations, and we’re thrilled to provide this support.”
More than 92%* of classrooms have students whose families cannot afford to purchase school supplies for children, leading many teachers to spend their own money—up to $750 per year*—to fill the gap for students and equip their classrooms. To top it off, 78%* of educators report extra supply needs due to learning loss caused by COVID-19.
“The continued support from Findlay Subaru Prescott and the Subaru Loves Learning initiative over the years is greatly appreciated by Yavapai County school district teachers, staff, students and families,” said Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter. “With this donation, we will be able to provide additional support for essential items to help our students succeed during the upcoming school year.”
This is the fourth year Findlay Subaru Prescott has partnered with the Yavapai County school district and is part of a year-round commitment to the local community including partnerships with Yavapai Humane Society, Prescott Creeks Preservation Association, Launch Pad Teen Center and more.
Since 2016, Subaru of America has focused on helping students and schools through its Subaru Loves Learning initiative. Findlay Subaru Prescott is one of more than 600 national Subaru retailers working with AdoptAClassroom.org to adopt high-need classrooms (Title I Schoolwide Programs and/or 40% of the students qualifies for the Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program). It’s great to see Findlay Subaru making donations, but WHY ON EARTH DO TEACHERS HAVE TO BUY SUPPLIES AT ALL?
There is plenty of taxpayer money being injected into the public school system to buy cheapo items like pens, pencils and dry erase markers, so obviously that money is being siphoned off for other purposes.
It’s time to make school Administrators provide a 100% transparent accounting for all taxpayer money. Where is the money that should be going for supplies actually going to?
You wrote “obviously that money is being siphoned off for other purposes”, really, that is the ONLY reason that teacher’s have to buy supplies. How about, students don’t bring the supplies they are supposed to bring with them, things break and wear out, a different item is needed for a specific project etc…I am not a teacher, never have been a teacher and never will be a teacher, but if I were a teacher the first thing I would do, as soon as the class rosters came out in July, is make sure there were no kids in my class with a parent named “Ryan”…
