The Prescott Police Department has arrested Alexander De Caro, 37, of Prescott, on multiple felony charges to include armed robbery.
On August 16th at approximately 6:50 P.M., the Prescott Police Department received a report of an armed robbery that just occurred at Gilligan’s Gas Station located at 501 Copper Basin Road. The investigation revealed that De Caro entered the store and removed a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the clerk who was behind the counter. De Caro then demanded the money from the register and told the clerk that it “wasn’t personal”. The clerk complied with De Caro, who took approximately $300 in cash prior to leaving the store on foot.
Investigating officers on scene were able to view the video footage from the store, which corroborated the information provided by the clerk. Additionally, on-scene officers recognized the suspect from a previous ongoing investigation into a stolen handgun.
Based on the evidence gathered, officers were able to determine that De Caro had walked to the nearby Safeway where his vehicle was parked and left the scene at a high rate of speed. This information was provided to surrounding agencies. A short time later deputies with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office observed De Caro in his vehicle. Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 1200 block of Gail Gardner Way and De Caro was taken into custody without incident.
De Caro admitted his involvement in the robbery incident and the handgun was recovered in the center console of his vehicle. It was confirmed to be the stolen handgun from the previous investigation. De Caro was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on multiple felony charges, including Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Theft of the firearm.
The Prescott Police Department commends the excellent work of the officers and deputies, who worked together to apprehend a dangerous suspect from our community.
