It was another perfect day for pitching horseshoes at Watson lake in Prescott for the Prescott Merchants Tournament sponsored by Home Depot and hosted by the Mile Hi Horseshoe Club.
Ty Frazier made the trip from Kingman worthwhile by sweeping the Class B division with a perfect (6-0) record. Frazier’s closest call came in his final game of the day with Bryant Smith Jr. It went back and forth but in the very end it was Frazier pulling out a 25-24 win. Smith Jr. took second place by winning the ringer percentage tiebreaker with another Kingman player Jeff Corwin, who took third.

Hal Handelman was also in a position to sweep Class A, but in the final game Cody Williams ruined that plan as Williams was his sharpest of the day and won that last game to finish in second place. Williams started off poorly with three losses but rebounded to win his final three and his effort was good enough to just get past Bruce Reid with a better ringer percentage. Reid ended up third. Handelman won his first tournament in Prescott this year by going (5-1) on the day.
Tournaments will be held the next two Saturdays on May 16 & 23 at American Legion Park on Bob Drive in Prescott Valley before returning to Watson Lake on May 30. Start time is 9am and anyone interested is encouraged to come out and see for themselves what the horseshoe pitching league is all about. More info is available at www.ashpa.club
Previous tournament winners this year in Prescott are Cody Williams, Mike Brewer, Jay Mast, Bruce Reid, and Bryant Smith Jr.
