Blind Turn in Skull Valley Turns into Head-on Collision – Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office

On Saturday, May 9th, around 5:30pm, deputies responded to a head‑on collision on Iron Springs Rd between Skull Valley and Prescott, near MM14, involving a Ford F‑250 and a Ford Mustang Mach‑E, each occupied by a single driver.

Both drivers sustained significant injuries and were flown to a Phoenix area hospital for treatment. Despite one driver being trapped in the vehicle for nearly 30 minutes before rescue crews were able to extricate her, both drivers survived the initial impact prior to being airlifted for treatment.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit investigators, including a drone operator, were called out to investigate the cause and factors related to the crash. Iron Springs Rd was closed for several hours and reopened on Saturday at around 8:45pm. Initial investigation suggest the Mustang crossed into the opposite lane while navigating a blind curve, other factors including speed and impairment remain under investigation. There were no witnesses.

YCSO thanks all responding agencies for their coordinated work and reminds drivers to use extra caution on narrow mountain roads with limited visibility.

  1. So, what exactly is a blind curve?? Iron Springs Road has plenty of sharp curves, all the way from Prescott to Kirkland. I fail the see any difference that would make one of them blind.
