Fourteen teams came from around the state of Arizona to participate in the Lady Badgers Winter Classic held at Prescott High School. Many schools from the larger 6A Division made the trip north giving both local teams some good competition as they both prepare for region play.
The Prescott Lady Badgers opened up with an impressive 57-46 win over the 6A Mesa Lady Jackrabbits.

Addie Prisciandaro knocked down 18 points that included four from downtown, but it was Bella0 Abt who also had 18 points that tangled inside with 6’4” Taylor Morris often winning the battle on the boards, that helped making the difference.
Prescott jumped on top with Abt and Prisciandaro leading the way, but Mesa got their offense going in the second quarter, cutting into the lead as the Lady Badgers held a 31-25 advantage at the half.

Both teams struggled as Mesa climbed a little close to get within at 37-33.Charly Pacheco finished with 12 points and kept the Lady Jackrabbits in the game for awhile. When Bella Abt was called for her fourth foul early in the fourth quarter, the Lady Badgers got some good inside play by Cate Jones and Bentlee Crockett. Abt returned for the final two minutes as Prescott put away the Lady Jackrabbits.

Crockett said, “Our defense made the difference today. It is good for us tom play bigger schools because it just gives us more challenges and that will only help as we get into region play because there are some good teams that we will face coming up.”

Prisciandaro said, “We were really excited to get to play against these bigger schools. We had a good start but kept coming back. This kind of competition makes us work harder, which is what we want. This will definitely help us prepare for our region games coming up.”
The Lady Badgers put up a good fight versus 6A Basha, but came up short. Prescott did win three of four, closing out their tournament with a 52-28 win over Cibola.
Prescott (12-3) will host Coconino on Tuesday as they resume Grand Canyon Region play. Tipoff is at 7pm.
