Pleasant temperatures with a steady breeze and an occasional gust created some challenges for the pitchers. Nevertheless, there were some good games to watch.
Class A saw Cody Williams rally down the stretch after dropping his first two games on the day while Trisha Lincoln started off strong and faded in her final two games. The result was a tie between Williams and Lincoln forcing a playoff. Each player had beaten the other with the playoff game being the decider in the rubber match.
It was very close and came down to the final frame as Trisha beat Cody 31-30. Williams led 30-27, but managed only one ringer in each of the last two frames. Lincoln took advantage by matching Williams’ ringers and picking up a point, and then a double ringer to fully overcome the deficit.
Trisha Lincoln who finished with a (5-2) record said, “For me it is not all about winning. I just love the competitive games and today we had that. It is exciting when the games come down to the wire.”
Cody Williams ended at (4-3) said, “I had a really good chance of winning, but I left the door open with some open frames. I still felt pretty good even though I lost to one of the top players in the nation.” Williams like Lincoln tossed 280 shoes on the day. Williams added, “Yeah that is a lot, but it will help me as I prepare to go to the world tournament in Sandy, Utah next month.”
Robert Chubinsky finished third.
