Yavapai Speaks: An Interview with Kelly Kading on Transportation, Roads and Water in Yavapai County

Lyle Rapacki, host of Yavapai Speaks, talks to Kelly Kading, an expert on transportation, roads and the EPA here in Yavapai County.

Mr. Kading explains that there are five main roads in Prescott. If anything happens to one of the roads, the others fill up and become a parking lot. The population growth rate of Prescott is a steady 2% every year. Unless something is done soon (road widening, adding smaller roads), we will hit a saturation point.

He mentions roundabouts and their problems, design questions, and uses a number of local examples.

  1. On roads and water, we have major problems ahead of us and it is all because of the thousands of people our City officials are cramming into our tiny town. Road are deplorable! Water, well our money hungry city officials are quickly going to realize that there is no amount of money that will replace our most precious commodity which is water. Once the water is gone and Prescott becomes another dry Southern California and the people will move out and Prescott will become just an empty ghost town.

  2. We need to stop Local Politicians who know absolutley nothing about the effects of high density development and how its affects, Public Safety and the Residents’ Quality of Life.

    Lets use Prescott Valley for example;

    The PV past and present administration know of a very serious issue that exsists withing the City Limits that is;

    Local Road are over maximum traffic capaicty and are unable to handle “Emergency Evacuation Traffic.” Yet the PV City Administration continues to approve new develeopment in these areas.

    For all the PV Mayor and City Council Members;

    Please research the failed evacuation plan of the Wildland Fire in Paradise , CA. Hundreds of people were unable to evacuate due to the local road design and lack of traffic flow capacities.

  3. If you ask me, Prescott is in pretty darn bad shape. To much building, to many people, to many hotel, to much traffic and not enough water to support the many people who live here. So how does the City solve this problem, they raise rates. Rates are going to go up every year for the next five years. That isn’t bad enough, very shortly there won’t be any water for people to pay more for, then what will the City dream of doing to fix the permanent problem they have created. Fire them all is the only solution, fire them all now!

  4. Has anyone out there notice the awful job the City has done at the intersections downtown with the red brick in the crosswalks? The bricks are quickly sinking and awful to drive over – just like all of our streets. And now to add to our already congested downtown they are spending more more to put in people safety posts which is a waste of time and money. Gee, I can only imagine what next the City will come up with to screw up our town!

  5. The City of Prescott is raising our water rates again so they can cram another 1,100 apartments into what was our tiny wonderful peaceful town. Well City people, money isn’t going going to buy more water, it won’t replenish our lakes and streams. As for our roads, we should hold every city official accountable for every person injured or killed in a traffic accident. Our streets and roads are in awful condition and congestion is getting worse and worse. Again City people, money will never replace life. Prescott needs to clean the slate and get rid of all of the old people making these decisions.
