Maintenance work on the outlet valve of the dam at Lynx Lake is needed to restore it to proper working order and keep it in compliance with regulations. To complete this work in a safe and efficient manner, the lake will be lowered to 30 feet below full pool to expose the outlet works. The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) expects that repairs will be completed this winter.
Work will begin once the water level is lowered enough to expose the outlet which they estimate will occur by mid-January. The remaining pool will have a maximum depth of 30 feet and will continue to offer fishing and recreational opportunities.
The shoreline will be muddy and soft and may take several weeks to dry out before shoreline access will be available for fishing or paddle craft launching. The end of the boat ramp is out of the water, causing hazardous conditions for vehicles, and launching of vessels behind vehicles will not be available.
When full, Lynx Lake is 55 surface acres, when it reaches the gate elevation, it will have a surface area of 22 acres. The last time Lynx Lake was lowered to the outlet was in 1974. AZGFD are monitoring conditions, and do not expect this drawdown to affect the fish in the lake.
Visitors are asked to use caution as the area near the water may be soft and unstable due to saturated soils. Rocks near water level may be slippery due to plant life and fine silt particles that have recently been exposed to the surface air and not fully dried out.
Note: The restrooms at Lynx Lake North Shore are temporarily closed due to problems caused by low water pressure. Vault toilets are available at South Shore.

How nice of these idiots to not give a dam about the wildlife that are being affected over a stupid drain pipe that gee, actually works considering that they’re draining the lake! (duh!) I’d love it if the people who had decided on this would have their houses deconstructed except for a small closet where they can live in for the next few years before their homes are reconstructed. It’ll take years to re-fill this lake. It’s not going to be a wet winter. Stupid idea, stupid people who think they’re so smart. Most likely city transplants that are used to draining swimming pools. Lakes are NOT to be drained!
