The effort by conservatives to vet school board candidates before ballots are mailed early next month moves into high gear on Wednesday for the Humboldt Unified School District (HUSD). The District is Yavapai County’s largest with over 5000 students at ten schools serving Prescott Valley, Dewey-Humbolt and parts of Mayer and Chino Valley.
As with many ‘government run’ public schools systems, public concern has arisen over progressive curriculum and ‘woke’ ideology finding their way into classrooms thru socially liberal teachers and school administrators. For HUSD, many parents are concerned with low test scores and what appears to be the de-emphasis of academics in favor of progressive concepts associated with Social-Emotional Learning and a critique of American Heritage and cultural values including free speech and religious faith.
Conservative political groups such as the Pachyderm Club are undertaking a public vetting process to identify the most authentically conservative and reliable candidates to support in upcoming school board elections.
According to Sue Goodchild, long-time head of the local Pachyderms, three HUSD school board candidates have agreed to meet with the group on Wednesday at 2pm at a private residence in the Prescott County Club. They include Dr. Mary Ann Dellinger, Sue Unverricht, and Bruce Sprague. The general public is invited to attend.
Light refreshments will be served. Due to limited space an RSVP is requested at 928.636.7355 or at suepachy@gmail.com. The address of the meeting will be provided with a confirmation of the reservation.
Dr. Mary Ann Dellinger is a former professor of languages at the Virginia Military Institute. She has also taught in the Tucson Unified School District. She holds a PHD in languages and has published four books and numerous articles on education and foreign language acquisition. He goal as a HUSD school board member is to revitalize academic instruction and allow parents a greater voice in their children’s education.
Sue Unverricht spent her career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She has served on the Prescott YMCA Finance Committee and as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. She has also served as a substitute school teacher in local schools. Her purpose in running for the school board is to bring greater fiscal oversight and accountability to school operations and to reverse the progressive drift in school curriculum.
Bruce Sprague is a conservative patriot with a military background. He has a BA from Christian Heritage College and has extensive experience with HUSD as a substitute teacher. He has a conservative world view and wants to restore traditional values of respect for American Heritage, constitutional government, religious freedom and parental rights to the Humboldt Unified School District.
All three of these candidates will speak and be available to answer questions from the public. In addition, former County Supervisor Tom Thurman will offer an update on Yavapai County’s vocational educational program.
All those concerned about the current direction of public education and want to see a more conservative HUSD school board are encouraged to attend this candidate vetting program on Wednesday, September 25th, 2pm at the Prescott Country Club.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Please RSVP at 928.636.7355 or at suepachy@gmail.com. The address of the meeting will be provided with confirmation of your reservation.
