The City of Prescott invites residents and businesses to join us to “Light the Night” on May 6th to mark the annual Firefighter Memorial Weekend. This is the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.
“We invite all landmarks, buildings, and families in the city to be a part of this national remembrance. City of Prescott new City Hall will join some of the most iconic buildings around the United States; such as One World Trade Center in New York City, the Reunion Tower in Dallas, and the LAX Pylons in Los Angeles to Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters,” said Fire Chief Holger Durre. Visit this to let families of fallen firefighters know of your participation.
“This also begins our 10th community-wide commemoration of the Granite Mountain Hotshot tragedy, which culminates in a memorial in the courthouse square on June 30th at 3 pm. Residents & Businesses are encouraged to simply swap out regular exterior light bulbs for red ones to serve as a symbol of support and comfort to the families from across our country whose loved ones are being honored and remembered,” said Chief Durre.
In the next few weeks, details will be released on the 10th Granite Mountain Hotshot commemoration. We hope you join us by showing the families of the 19 that we remember their sacrifice.”
