The Yavapai Symphony Association proudly presents violinist Sarah Chang in recital, Sunday March 26 at 3 p.m., at Yavapai College Performing Arts Center.
Quite simply, Sarah Chang is one of the foremost violinists of our time. Born in Philadelphia in 1981, she was accepted into the Juilliard School at the age of five and made her debut with the New York Philharmonic at age eight. Her first album, Debut, was recorded at the age of ten, and became a classical best-seller.
She has performed with the world’s major orchestras, including the National Symphony Orche-stra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Houston Symphony, Detroit Symphony and San Francisco Symphony.
Internationally, she has performed in Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Spain as well as China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. Sarah has also played the Hollywood Bowl and the Tanglewood, Ravinia, and Aspen Music Festivals. She has recorded 20 albums and performed with the likes of Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zuckerman and Yo-Yo Ma. She has received the Harvard University Leadership Award; she ran in New York as a torchbearer for the 2004 Olympic Games and in 2011, was named an official Artistic Ambassador by the U.S. Department of State.
In Prescott, Sarah will be performing a program of Brahms, Franck, and Bartok with renowned pianist Julio Elizalde, who has shared the stage with many of the leading artists of our time. He tours internationally with Sarah Chang and violinist Ray Chen and has performed alongside conductors Itzhak Perlman, Teddy Abrams, and Anne Manson. He also collaborated with cellists Pablo Ferrández and Kian Soltani, violinist Pamela Frank, composers Osvaldo Golijov and Stephen Hough, baritone William Sharp, and members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, Takács, Kronos, and Brentano string quartets.
