“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.” – Jeff Cooper
Whenever there is a mass shooting, the leftist press and politicians regurgitate their old, weathered arguments about banning guns, types of firearms, number of rounds a gun can hold, etc, etc, ad nauseam. Employing the logic of the simpleminded, their thinking is that if there is gun violence, eliminating the gun will stop gun violence. They completely factor out the human element. Without a living human being pulling the trigger, no gun violence will occur. Inanimate objects can’t do anything by themselves. A car, truck or SUV can’t kill anyone without a person driving it. The same with a sword, knife, grenade or any other device that can be used as weapon.
The obvious question presents itself: how can a civilized society protect itself against violence committed by firearms? The answer is uncomplicated although its implementation is challenging in today’s woke, progressive areas. The left’s answer is to take away law abiding citizens’ Constitutional right to own firearms. They ignore the fact that criminals are crooks because they don’t obey laws. The only thing confiscating guns would do, is deny righteous citizens the means to protect themselves.
The answer is not to eliminate or restrict guns for those that use them legally, it is to stop those who commit crimes from using them. There are plenty of laws on the books in every city and state in the country. At first glance, one would think that the areas that have the most suppressive gun laws would have the lowest number of crimes involving firearms. The opposite is true. Why?
Politicians who are progressive, woke, Democrat or RINO seem to have only two answers to address every problem: one is to throw money at the problem, and never check to see if it is working. Or two, pass laws, rules and regulations. Both answers are usually in response to a crisis, real or imagined and often result in a waste of money or over regulation. The difficulty in areas that have the most stringent gun laws and the highest gun crimes is that in most of those locations, they do not enforce the laws on the books. These progressive jurisdictions, with ultra-liberal politicians and woke prosecutors release felons without bail, even violent crimes using guns. They redefine violence, change felonies into misdemeanors and posture that they have the moral high ground.
So, we need a prescription for reducing firearm crimes. First, get rid of cashless bail. Second, vote out lame, woke politicians and prosecutors who won’t enforce Constitutional gun laws already on the books. Third, pass laws that really punish those that use firearms in the commission of crimes. Make sentencing in those crimes’ mandatory. Here are some suggestions.
Anyone convicted of being in possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime should receive a mandatory five-year enhancement to whatever sentence they received for the original crime. Anyone convicted of using a gun during the commission of a crime should receive an additional ten years to the sentence for the original crime. Anyone convicted of a crime while in possession of a firearm, that causes injury to another person, should have a mandatory fifteen-year enhancement in addition to the sentence for the original crime. If a death occurs during the commission of a crime with the use of a gun, a mandatory sentence of life without parole, or death by injection should be imposed. In addition, any person on parole, or anyone with a prior felony conviction who is found to be in possession of a firearm, should receive a mandatory twenty-year sentence.
If these laws were passed and enforced, gun violence would drop dramatically.

Yea Buz; right as rain what you say. An idea I have is to attempt to motivate Republican and Libertarian parties to campaign in the “D” cities where all the crime is taking place. No one is offering opposition to the Democrat control that is “allowing” the poor to be ravaged by crime.
It can be done. Rudy Juilani (sp) Mayor of NYC did it in the past and it can be accomplished in the future. Without any real opposition the Harlem Globe Trotters win every game. Without firm opposition nothing will change.
Mr. Williams, Increasing penalties for gun use would have some effect, but it would have no effect on the extreme mass shooting events that have plagued our schools and public venues. The shooters in these extreme mass shootings typically have no criminal record and purchased their weapons legally. They also typically commit suicide during the event. They also typically use weapons with large amounts of ammunition in single magazines (pistols, up to 33 rounds/ rifles-up to 50 rounds). I own a hand gun and a rifle, I will never need extended magazines for home defense or hunting. Why should anybody, no matter how crazy, be allowed to purchase large capacity magazines, if it just for fun or mass murder. I remember here in AZ when Gabrielle Giffords was shot in Tucson, the shooter had a pistol with an extended magazine (33 rounds), he shot 20 people, killing six and leaving the congresswoman grievously injured. The shooter was tackled when he attempted to put on another extended magazine. If he did not have extra large magazine, lives literally could have been saved. My thought is to lessen school shooting and public mass shooting events, make it harder for people with mental problems to get theses types of magazines. I would gladly submit to another layer of verification to purchase a weapon that can be used for such evil purposes by these shooters.
