The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded four (4) new grants for the FFY 2023 to the Prescott Valley Police Department, all of which promise to improve safety on our streets and highways. The Prescott Valley Police Department would like to thank the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for partnering with us to improve the safety of the roadways in and around Prescott Valley.
The first grant, in the amount of $20,000, is designated for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) which also allows law enforcement to provide overtime, equipment, material and supplies. Due to normal calls for service, it is often difficult to staff selective enforcement.
The second grant, in the amount of $22,500, is for DUI/Impairment Overtime, Materials & Supplies. This funding goes to staffing of DUI task forces, local DUI patrols, underage alcohol consumption and the numerous specific supplies that are required of a successful DUI prosecution, such as blood kit tubes and phlebotomy supplies.
The third grant is designated for Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Enforcement Overtime, Materials & Supplies in the amount of $16,000. This grant makes it possible to place traffic officers in areas where most crashes occur and where violations are most dangerous.
The fourth grant, in the amount of $9,846, will focus on occupant protection prevention activities and education at schools, daycares, and other public events.
Analysis of prior grant funding has proven that the ability to allow officers to focus on a specific issue of concern translates to remarkably effective results, which we look forward to continuing in the years to come. GOHS grants such as these are very effective tools in keeping our streets and highways safe.
