Reacquiring Lost Liberty – Buz Blog

This 4th of July, we celebrate 250 years of  freedom. About this holiday, Thomas Jefferson wrote, shortly before his death, “For ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights and an undiminished devotion to them.” Throughout our history, other Americans have commented on what this unique holiday means and how it should be celebrated.

Jefferson’s contemporary Founding Father, friend, and often political foe, John Adams wrote about our Independence Day, “I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

Daniel Webster stated, No age will come in which the American Revolution will appear less than it is, one of the greatest events in human history.”

Frederick Douglass – The Fourth of July is the first great fact in your nation’s history—the very ring and edge of the sword of your fathers’ honor.”

“Those who won our independence believed liberty to be the secret of happiness and courage to be the secret of liberty.” – Louis D. Brandeis

Even President Barack Obama stated, This nation was born on the 4th of July. We celebrate not just our independence, but the enduring promise of liberty.”

“The United States is the only country with a known birthday.” – James Gillespie Blaine

There are thousands of other people who have expressed their feelings and gratitude for those who won our freedom and those who later fought and governed to preserve our liberty. All of us have an obligation to ensure our heritage of freedom. We should dedicate ourselves to restoring the liberties we have lost since our founding. They have been eroded over the years and that erosion increased since the dawn of this century and reached its peak during the Biden era.

What we can do as patriotic citizens, is support every effort to restore our God given rights. We should encourage the legitimate prosecution of those who violated the rights of our fellow citizens. We need to determine legal ways to remove those who have violated their oath of office to the Constitution. That would include those naturalized citizens who hold office in foreign governments, and/or have stated their allegiance to another country and have been elected or appointed to public office in our country and states.

We can thank God that the Trump Administration and Justice Department are exposing those who have prostituted our Constitution in order to suppress political opposition, or to maintain or enhance their political power. A partial list of these crimes includes the following:

Brunch-Banner-400X100

Those in power under Obama and Biden violated the First Amendment rights to Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech or the right to peacefully assemble, by investigating, without any probable cause, traditional Roman Catholics who espoused and attended the Latin Mass. Arresting and prosecuting Christian pastors who held services, even outdoor services, during the COVID government shutdown. Arresting and prosecuting those praying at or near abortion clinics. The Obama Justice Department possibly violated the right to a free press by monitoring the phone calls and other communications of reporters that they felt published leaks about some of their activities

Many of the January 6 defendants were denied the right to due process and a speedy trial in violation of the 6th Amendment. Many were held without the opportunity to post bail violating the 8th Amendment. Even left wing Senator Elizabeth Warren argued that the jail conditions where these defendants were housed amounted to “cruel” punishment.

Two hundred and fifty years after the Declaration of Independence was published, it is hardly surprising that an erosion of our rights has occurred. It is truly encouraging that the current Administration in Washington is working to expose and correct those violations of God given rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution.  The Founders gave us our Constitution as an insurance policy against government intrusion.

We should follow the advice of both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and celebrate this most remarkable and history changing day and document. Next Saturday we should pursue the “happiness” the Founders intended for us. Have a Happy Fourth of July.
