The Prescott Lady Badgers will begin the 4A Division playoffs with a familiar foe in rival Bradshaw Mountain. The Lady Bears made the Play-In Round and pulled off a 43-42 upset win over Sahuaro in Tucson. Their reward is a third game this season with Prescott.
Both games were won by Prescott in blowouts. The Lady Badgers won 65-26 on January 8 in Prescott Valley and a 74-21 win on January 30 in Prescott.
Grand Canyon Region awards were recently given out and the region champion Lady Badgers did quite well. Bella Abt won Player of the Year. Addie Prisciandaro won Offensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year went to Jami Johnson. Abt, Prisciandaro were on the All Region First Team with Prescott’s Lilly James and Emma Johnson of Bradshaw Mountain earning Second Team honors. Honorable Mentions from Prescott were Bentlee Crockett and Cate Jones with Allyson Downing and Kenna Martinez from Bradshaw Mountain.
Prescott is ranked #2 behind #1 Salpointe Catholic, who was upset in the Open Division. Had the Lady Lancers won their second round game, they would still be in the Open Division and Prescott would have had the #1 seed. The way it is set up, the two teams would meet in the championship game, providing each team wins three playoff games first. Salpointe Catholic beat Prescott 58-39 in their tournament on December 4 in Tucson.
