The Trinity Christian Warriors have won the Canyon Athletic Association (CAA) Division II Boys Basketball State Championship. The Warriors have now won three basketball championships since they began in 2012.

Connor Wallace scored 25 points to lead the Warriors to a 52-36 win over the Southwest Leadership Academy Rams at Arizona State University Desert Financial Arena.

The two teams had met just 10 days ago when the Warriors beat the Rams 59-51 in Phoenix. This one started out to be a real battle. The Warriors found themselves trailing after the first quarter by two 13-11.

The Rams caught the turnover bug and the Warriors took advantage in the second quarter. Wallace had a breakaway layup and then Chun with a rejection led to a fast break basket by Tate Dykstra as Trinity Christian led 24-17 at the half.

Wallace took over to start the second half with three straight buckets to push the lead to 30-17. Much like the second quarter, the Rams struggled with the protecting the ball.

Taking advantage of a slow return to the court after a timeout by the Rams, Dylan Furrer fired a pass from the side court to Zeek Chun under the basket for an easy two.

By the time the dust settled in the third quarter, the Trinity Christian had a commanding 40-21 lead.

Wallace put an exclamation on the night with a driving slam dunk, giving the Warriors their largest lead 48-23, with just over five minutes remaining.

The Rams found some offense in the final minutes but far too little to late to make a difference in the game, but in the final score.
