After the Civil War, baseball spread rapidly across the American West. In 1866, Prescott organized its first nine, helping spark the game’s rise throughout the Arizona Territory. By the turn of the twentieth century, professional baseball had taken root in the Grand Canyon State. A century later, the sport has grown into a billion-dollar industry in Arizona—all owing its beginnings to frontier teams who played for the love of the game and were the pride of Prescott.
