The Flagstaff Eagles got a big game from Tyler Troxler with 18 points to dampen senior night for the Badgers at Prescott High School.

The tradition of starting all seniors put the Badgers at a disadvantage early as the Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Prescott battled back on with baskets from Drew Jolley, Cameron Dicker, and Jake Diener to tie the score at 14 with two minutes left in the opening quarter after  a three point basket by Chase Stedman. Flagstaff responded with a 7-0 run to close out the quarter.

The Badgers tried climbing the hill the remainder of the night, but got within three after a Jax Kleinman three to get within 30-25. The Eagles led 32-27 at the half.

Prescott railed 32-29 and had the ball, with a chance to tie, but a steal and slam by Troxler.

Two more turnovers led to baskets with the second one a breakaway bucket by Raphael Drumm to make it 38-29.

The Badgers had become a second half team as of late and the crowd was waiting for them to kick their offense into high gear, but they were never able to thanks to the defensive effort by the Eagles.

Trailing 44-33, Pedro Jimenez knocked down a three at the end of the third quarter to make it 44-36.

Prescott got within 48-43 after Jake Diener drove through the lane for a layup. The Badgers had only one team foul with under a minute to play, so they fouled quickly to get Flagstaff to the free throw line. The Eagles made their free throw shots down the stretch and the Badgers could not get the long range shot to fall.

Coach Travis Stedman said, “Congratulations to the seniors, I am going to miss them. It is a major bummer that we lost the game, but both teams are fighting for a playoff spot and they did what they had to do to win. Now we have to go to Mingus and win there or our season will be over. I mean that is a must win for us.”

Drew Jolley had 8 points, but was held scoreless in the second half. Stedman said, “I am not really sure what happened to him, but they made things more difficult for him in the second half and were able to basically take him out of the game. He is just a sophomore so he will continue to learn and develop.”

Prescott will play at Mingus on Monday and really needs a win in order to secure a playoff berth. The Marauders won 49-46 in Prescott earlier this season. Tipoff in Cottonwood is at 7:00pm.
