Every form of government that restricts freedom, whether it is communist, fascist or democratic socialist, once in power, tightens the reins on liberty. Often, they do this slowly at first, until their leaders feel that they have enough control of individuals and freedom loving groups. One of their most effective tools is to corrupt language and the definitions of words and phrases and descriptions of people, places and things. Big Brother is a much more pleasing name than Despotic Torturer. The Democrat political players and their media hacks on the left have been doing this in our country for a long time.
Just a little over a decade ago, riots broke out in Ferguson, Missouri, after a police officer shot and killed Black teenager, Michael Brown. A video surfaced that showed that Michael Brown had just robbed a convenience store. Using his size and strength, he overpowered and knocked to the ground, the petite Asian owner of the business. Then Brown and his friend stole some cigars. Did the media describe Brown as a bullying, hulking brute of a robber? No. They broadcast what his friends and family said; that Michael was a “gentle giant” who was going to start college in the fall. To compound their deception, they perpetrated the lie told by Michael’s friend, that Michael Brown was yelling “Hands up, don’t shoot.” After the corporate press incited the population of that area, many of them depicted the riots they helped to create, as “unrest”.
In 2020, George Floyd basically overdosed on several drugs after he was arrested for trying to pass a counterfeit ten dollar bill. The arrest and death were recorded on a cell phone. That video made the Minneapolis police look bad. The Democrat politicians and media had a field day after that. Convicted of robbery and numerous narcotic violations, George Floyd was presented to the public as a reformed convict who was trying to put his life back together. Only a few fair and balanced media organizations reported how “St. George” held a loaded gun to the stomach of a pregnant women during the robbery for which he was convicted. Riots followed in cities all over the country. CNN reported that in Portland, Oregon, there was a “fiery, but mostly peaceful protest”.
Sometimes the left’s overuse of a term or policy backfires. When the Biden administration started labeling Trump and anyone who was at the capitol on January 6, 2021, as “insurrectionists”, the vast majority of Americans didn’t buy it. They had heard Trump say that they should march to the Capitol building “peacefully and patriotically”. Anyone with half a brain was asking if there was ever an insurrection when the rebels were not armed. In 2024, Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felonies of virtually non-existent crimes in the state of New York. The left, the Democrats and their lapdog media, started calling him a felon. Trump so easily tricked them into doing stupid things. He and his campaign made a ton of money selling t-shirts with his mug shot over the heading “Not Guilty”.
Just last year, the left media went insane when federal law enforcement officers arrested Kilmar Abrego Garcia and deported him. Even though he was affiliated with the violent gang, MS-13, was accused by his wife of domestic violence and was stopped by police while transporting illegal immigrant women across state lines. The lame stream media continued to refer to him as a “Maryland dad”
In the last month, Democrat politicians and their obsequious media have continued to prostitute our language. When Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed after she rammed an ICE officer with her car, ABC News described her as a “Minneapolis mother of three”. They failed to mention the fact that Good was blocking the street with her car or that she refused officers’ orders to get out of the car.
A week later, Alex Pretti, who was armed, spit at officers and while violently resisting arrest was shot and killed by Border Patrol agents. Pretti was an ICU nurse and when the media asked his family and friends about him, their statements about him were presented ad nauseum in the press. They were what anyone would expect from relatives and closer friends. His medical colleagues said he was “incredibly competent”. His family stated that Alex was a “kind hearted soul”. His ex-wife inferred that Pretti was nonviolent and was never physically confrontational. Videos of his actions before his shooting death, and of a previous video showing his kicking the taillight out of federal law enforcement vehicle, disprove those myths.
Since the death of those two violent protesters, CNN has developed a new phrase to pervert our nomenclature. Whenever anyone questions the hero status of someone killed by law enforcement, the CNN “national security expert” and analyst Juliette Keyyem, coined the phrase, “kill and slander”.
So, to clear up any confusion, when you see, hear, or read these terms, especially in relation to a confrontation, injury or death at the hands of those who enforce our duly enacted laws, this is what they really mean:
“Gentle giant”, reformed convict, peaceful protester, etc. – any criminal of large size and stature, who bullies, beats, steals or robs others or a narcotics abuser or a violent protester who loses his or her life or freedom when violently confronting police.
Hitler, Nazis, January 6 insurrectionists, or fascists – Trump, MAGA supporters, people arrested for actions on January 6, 2021, or anyone who disagrees with leftists and their agenda.
“Maryland dad”, Minneapolis mom who is the mother of three, nonviolent protester – illegal alien gang banger, useful idiot who runs her car into a cop, or a protester who comes armed with a loaded gun to a protest.
These words or phrases are meant to mitigate feelings against criminals and create or enhance antagonism against those who oppose the Democrat party, democrat socialism, or communism. Be on the look out because there are many more.
