Prescott Rebounds with Win Over Mohave: High School Basketball Roundup

Just a couple of days after a tough loss to the Mingus Marauders, the Prescott Badgers were back at it, this time with much better results in a 69-44 win over the  Mohave Thunderbirds.

Jake Diener returned from an illness that had kept him out the last couple of games and scored a game high 16 points. Diener said, “I was really looking forward to getting back out here. I was able to get some good shots tonight. We needed to get back out here and move on after the loss to Mingus. We really can’t look back but can learn. We just have to keep going and moving forward because we have some tough games ahead.”

The Badgers built a double digit lead in the opening quarter behind buckets from Diener, Caden Lozen, Drew Jolley, and three point baskets by Jack Golleher and Chase Stedman.

The lead grew to 18 as Prescott led 33-15 at the half. Mohave found the basket more in the third, closing the deficit to 41-28 at the end fo three quarters.

Both teams lit it up in the fourth, with the Thunderbirds freshman Andy Osoria-Navarro nailing a three and Devon Cook knocking down 10 of his 14 points in the final eight minutes.

The Badgers maintained a healthy lead at 55-38 with three plus minutes left to play, then went on an 11-0 run with quick buckets by Pedro Jimenez, Bobby Molnar, and Pierce Tenney, in the next 90 seconds to go up 66-38.

Mohave falls to (1-7) in the Grand Canyon Region  and (4-14) overall. Prescott improved to (9-11) overall and (5-2) in the GCR. The Badgers will host Coconino on Tuesday at 7pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball

 Addie Prisciandaro scored 27 and Bella Abt added 18 as the Prescott Lady Badgers made very quick work of the Mohave Lady T-Birds 78-9 in the Badger Dome.

The Prescott defense dominated, as they held Mohave to just four shots, shutting out the Lady Thunderbirds in the first eight minutes.

Prisciandaro, Abt, and Lilly James created a bunch of turnovers that frustrated the Lady T-Birds early. James said, “We always go out and play hard. We like to limit their shots and create opportunities for us to score.” In regards to playing in these blowout games, James, said, “We try to work on things that can help us play better. One good thing is that games like this give our bench a good amount of playing time, and that helps everybody.”

Mohave scored to start the second quarter to make it 26-3, but Prescott outscored the Lady T-Birds 24-1 in the final 7:35.

Leading 50-4, Prescott continued to use the entire bench, growing the lead to 70-7 after three quarters.

Bella Roskopf had a good game off the bench with 9 points. Daria Young had a pair of baskets in the fourth quarter as Prescott improves to (7-0) in the Grand Canyon Region and are (19-3) overall.

Next up for the Lady Badgers is a trip to Flagstaff on Tuesday to face Coconino. Game time is 7pm.
