The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) hosted a Tri-City Task Force DUI enforcement detail on New Year’s Eve to ensure community safety. With funding by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (AZGOHS), YCSO partnered with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Chino Valley Police Departments. This multi-agency effort resulted in 142 total contacts throughout the night.
The detail was highly productive in identifying and stopping drivers who were under the influence. Of the nine total DUI arrests made, two were for Aggravated (felony) DUI, and two for Extreme DUI with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .15 or higher. One arrest involved a driver under the age of 21, and three arrests were for drug-related impairment. The average BAC for drivers impaired by alcohol during the detail was .141.
In addition to the DUI enforcement, the task force addressed other hazardous driving behaviors, resulting in 5 criminal speed arrests, 43 civil speed citations, and 97 other traffic-related citations. The detail also led to 14 additional arrests for various criminal offenses.
Despite the many arrests, the Sheriff’s Office was encouraged that 15 designated drivers were contacted during the detail. YCSO continues to remind the public to plan for a sober ride home. We would also like to thank our partners for their commitment to this collaborative safety initiative.
Summary of Cumulative Task Force Stats:
- Total Contacts: 142
- Total DUI Arrests: 9 (including 2 Aggravated, 2 Extreme, 1 Underage, and 3 Drug-related)
- Average BAC: 0.141
- Speeding-Related: 5 Criminal Arrests / 43 Civil Citations
