Three Badgers scored seven touchdowns in a 48-0 blowout win over the Mingus Marauders on homecoming night at Prescott High School.

Braylon Johnson had the hat trick scoring on runs of 4, 48, and 24. Jacob Chamberlain scored on runs of 8 and 3, and Kenny Miller-Terry scored on a pass reception and a fumble recovery in the end zone.

The Badgers were stopped on their initial possession turning the ball over on downs at the Mingus 28, but from that point forward the offense wore down the 20 man squad of the Marauders, building on a 7-0 lead after one quarter, to lead 28-0 at the half.

The Prescott defense spent a lot of time in the Marauder backfield explaining the dismal numbers by Mingus quarterback Hunter Bejarano, who completed just 6 of 22 for 97 yards and a pair of interceptions.

The Badger “D” also held the Marauder ball carriers to just 13 yards on the ground.

Johnson scored the first TD going off tackle from 4 yards out. In the second quarter Chamberlain blasted through from 8 yards out. Johnson had the longest run of the night when he broke through the line and weaved his way 48 yards to make it 21-0. In the final seconds of the first half, a fumble by the running back went into the end zone where Kenny Miller-Terry was and he pounced on the ball to make it 28 to zip.

It was Miller-Terry again with a 23 yard pass reception from quarterback James Hefferin who was 5-7 for 89 yards in the game as the score grew to 34-0. Johnson scored his third TD on a 24 yard run to make it 41-0 with 2:29 left in the third.

Mingus went for it on fourth down and four yards near midfield but the Badgers defense blew up the play giving Prescott good field position.

The opening play of the fourth quarter saw Chamberlain pretty much walk in for a 48-0 lead and a running clock ensued.

Though the Badgers started off a bit slow, it was a good game to put last week’s horrible game further distance behind them. Travis Gates said, “We had a good week of practice and felt like we were ready tonight. Having the fans behind us really helps us with that too. Last week was definitely a valley for us and now we a coming out of that to get into the peaks again.”

Chamberlain with 211 and Johnson 149 combined for 360 yards of rushing as the Badgers averaged just under eight yards per carry. Trace Overton led the team in tackles with eight. The Badger defense gave up just 110 yards of total offense to the Marauders that included nine tackles for loss.

Braylon Johnson said, “This was a huge confidence builder for us. We had a bad week last week and there is no denying that. Our big boys are leading us down the field and this is something we can build on for the rest of the season.”

Prescott (1-1) and (3-2) will travel to Bullhead City to face Mohave on Friday at 7pm. Mingus fell to (0-2) and (0-5) will host Coconino.
