The annual Kiwanis Kiddy Parade in downtown Prescott was held the on the morning of the fourth with over 800 children participating in the event.

The weather was fantastic with a slight breeze as temperatures reached into the 70s. Many parents, grandparents, and friends of the entrees took to the street right on time at 9am. There were also a good many parade watchers gathered along each side of Cortez Street.
At the conclusion the children were greeted near the bandstand and treated to ice cream sandwiches. It is something that makes the effort to go the two and a half blocks worthwhile.
At the bandstand, the Kiwanis Organization gave out awards to many of the kids in different categories. They were given a certificate to mark their achievements. As I took a random sample asking the children what they liked most about the day so far, the top three answers were getting dressed up, having fun with family and friends, and of course, the ice cream.

The parade continues to be a free family fun event that features many children in some amazing and colorful costumes and decorations. Once again great job by all those involved in making this year’s kiddy parade a success as we celebrate the birth of our nation.
