Trailing 1-0, the Badgers took their first lead in the bottom of the first inning. A drag bunt single by Luke Martin started things off with and with a late errant throw, put him at second base to get things going. Martin said, “First batter, I’ve got to get on and get something going. We have a great lineup. We can swing it and I feel like every time I get on I’m going to score. Everybody is hitting and we’re just putting it all together.” Luke Tobin singled to put runners at the corners. Sanderford and Colton Champion each had RBI singles to give Prescott a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles would regain the lead on a bases loaded single by Luke Holt, scoring two. Sanderford worked his way out of the jam with limited damage, but Flagstaff now led 3-2. Prescott would get the equalizer in the bottom of the inning.

Sanderford came out and shut the Eagles down, giving the Badgers some momentum that they would build on in the bottom of the third. The Badgers would score seven runs to break the game open, highlighted by Martin’s two RBI liner down the first baseline for a double. Sanderford knocked in Martin with a double. Earlier in the inning, Dominic Cruz was down 0-2 in the count and worked a walk to load the bases. A four pitch walk followed to Jacob Patterson for an RBI. Ivan Schuster had an RBI single. When the dust settled, the Badgers had sent 12 batters to the plate.
Cruz, who raised his batting average to .294 by going three for three, said, “I came out this season not hitting at all, couldn’t find it. I have been working a lot with Coach Davis, and he has helped me out a lot. He is a great hitting coach and I’ve got to thank him for that. One of the things that has made a difference is tipping my bat forward. I have been really been working on that, taking a lot of swings. Finally got my opportunity today and put them into play.”
Flagstaff managed a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 10-4. The Badgers had a golden opportunity to add to their lead but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning.
After a run by the Eagles on a pair of doubles by Canyon Korkman and Will Carpenter trimmed the lead to 10-5, Prescott would put the game out of reach for good.
Cruz came up and for the second time in the game hit a ball over the centerfielders head for a double. This time though he would score on a two RBI single by Tobin. Sanderford beat out a ball for an infield single and a throwing error by the Eagles scored Schuster and Martin who were both hit by a pitch to reach base.
The Badgers moved up in the 4A rankings to #4 this week and have three top ten opponents coming up with home games versus Bradshaw Mountain, Crismon, and a road game at ALA-Gilbert North.
Prescott will face the Eagles in Flagstaff today at 3:45 pm.
