Lights, Camera, Action! Inaugural Prescott Youth Film Program Kicks Off Production

The Movement Studio in Prescott Valley is proud to announce the launch of student film production for its inaugural Youth Film Program. In January 2025, this groundbreaking seasonal program started empowering young filmmakers ages 9-17 to transform their passion for storytelling into professional skills. Over five months, participants will create amazing films, music videos, and community documentaries using professional equipment and mentorship from industry experts. And after spending several weeks learning how to “pitch” their film ideas, last week the students began production for the first five “greenlit” films.

Transforming Passion into Professional Skills
The unique goal of The Youth Film Program is to blend creative vision and technical expertise, with a focus on entrepreneurship within the film and video production fields. Participants are developing a robust foundation in filmmaking through hands-on workshops, real-world projects, and expert instruction. Over the course of the program, students are learning several industry skills:

  • Professional Cinematography and Camera Operation

  • Scriptwriting and Storytelling Techniques

  • Directing and Production Management

  • Sound Design and Lighting

  • Professional Editing

  • Marketing &  Media Entrepreneurship

Students are gaining invaluable experience working in collaborative teams, creating professional-quality short films, and preparing for creative careers in the digital age. The program will culminate in a spectacular red carpet premiere on May 27th, 2025, at Harkins Theater in Prescott Valley, where student films will be showcased to the public.

Learning Outcomes
By the program’s conclusion, participants will:

  • Create a professional-quality short film for their portfolio

  • Master industry-standard techniques and equipment

  • Develop content for multiple platforms

  • Gain real-world experience in project management and creative teamwork

The Grand Finale: Red Carpet Premiere
May 27, 2025, marks the culmination of these young filmmakers’ hard work with a professional Red Carpet screening event at the Harkins Theater in Prescott Valley! This celebration of creativity will showcase all student films to the public, recognize outstanding achievements in filmmaking, and bring together our entire creative community. It’s more than just a screening – it’s a professional launch pad for these young filmmakers.
