Badgers Enjoy Senior Night with 91-39 Win

It was another beat down by the Prescott Badgers as they thrashed the Mingus Marauders 91-39 on senior night to improve to (19-5) and winning the Grand Canyon Region for the second straight year as they extend their win streak to 14 games.

It was the final regular season home game for the seven seniors. Seeing three key seniors grow up as players over the last four years has brought a lot of excitement, not to mention some broken records at Prescott High School. Uriah Tenette will go down as the greatest player to wear a Badgers jersey, and his number one should be retired. Zane Gaul is another one whose contributions have made a huge impact on the court. Cooper Magnett, some might refer to him as the third man, has quietly been a consistent force on the court despite being over shadowed by Tenette and Gaul. Tommy Richardson, Sebashtyn Vanderploeg, Coley Fundalewicz, and Josiah Peoples, have all played a part in the success of this team.

Tenette, in his bid to lead the state of Arizona in scoring again, led all scorers with 34 points including an exciting half court shot to end the third quarter to go along with his multiple dunks. Tenette, is averaging 28 points a game and has a slim lead over Tyson Dobbins of Desert Christian who has an average of 27.8. Tenette said, “Very emotional night for me, even though I didn’t really show it. I have been playing basketball my entire life and this just came so fast. It was great to have my family from California and from the south to be here for this experience. I am truly blessed.” Zane Gaul also had a big night with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Gaul said, “It was senior night so there was a lot of emotion. We came out hot and used this night as motivation to play well.”

Prescott came out at lightning speed and blew out the Marauders early taking control and leading by 25 after just the first quarter. Tommy Richardson drilled four of his five three point shots in the opening eight minutes. Richardson said, “Super fun even though I didn’t feel that well. It is our only senior night so you go out and make the best of it.” Tenette and Gaul went to the basket hard with multiple jams between them as the lead grew to 58-18 at the half.

Another big third quarter ended with a half court, nothing but net, basket by Tenette to bring the Badger Dome to life as the Prescott led 85-29 after three quarters.

Cooper Magnett scored nine points and said, “I have seen so many senior nights go by, it’s kinda surreal for me and my guys. Super fun though. Sad it’s our last regular home game. The energy was great I think we played pretty good. We didn’t get lazy it was a really fun night, and we have to be happy about that.”

Prescott sits at #2 in Division 4A and #16 in the Open Division. The Badgers have a  final regular season game at Mohave tonight, then will begin the Open Division playoffs next Tuesday.

The Lady Badgers posted their 20th win on the season with a 53-47 win over the Mingus Lady Marauders in Cottonwood. The victory secured second place in the Grand Canyon Region for the second straight season. The twenty wins marks the first time Prescott girls have done this since the 2015-16 season, when the Lady Badgers went (22-6).

Addie Prisciandaro scored 22 and Bella Abt had 20 and needs just 27 points to reach 1,000 points in her career.

Prescott (20-6) sits on the edge of the Open Division bracket at #30. The Lady Badgers are ranked #8 in Division 4A. A win tonight over Mohave might not do much to change the rankings when the final poll comes out on Saturday.
