The City of Prescott transfer station can no longer accept televisions as a form of electronic recycling. Our vendor for electronic recycling is no longer accepting them. Consider donating your old tv or even taking to a resale vendor.
Why Are They not Recyclable?
- Recycling requires complex disassembly to separate components like glass, plastics, and metals. CRT TVs contain significant amounts of lead in their glass, which can be harmful to the environment if not handled correctly during recycling:
-
Low market: recycled materials from old TVs do not have a high enough market value to offset the cost of recycling them;
- Bulk and weight: TVs are large and heavy, making transportation and handling difficult and costly.
Some retailers accept old electronics, including TVs. Consider taking it back to the retailer where you purchased it or its replacement.
Otherwise, they can go in the regular trash.
