* Young and Old Enjoy 36th Annual Acker Night – Ron Williams

(audio attached) It was a beautiful cool evening for the cities beloved musical holiday tradition that brought many near and far to enjoy a festive evening in downtown Prescott.

Opening ceremonies began shortly before five as people started to fill Gurley Street in front of Bashford Court. The Prescott High School Choir opened things up, followed by the Bradshaw Mountain Concert Choir. The Trinity Presbyterian Choir closed with an amazing version of Hallelujah Chorus. Then it was off to the 130 different business that hosted musical acts for the next three hours.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were doing a brisk business taking photos with families and anybody willing to wait a few minutes for that special picture with the jolly couple. The photos were free with a tip bag ready for your donation to the help fund musical scholarships and music programs across the three area school districts.

David and Sarah Harrison drove up from Mesa to enjoy this special event for the third time. David said, “This is such a unique experience and it is well worth the trip up here. I feel that for us this really gets us in the spirit of Christmas. The music is amazing and you can tell that each musician has a heart for the music programs here.” Sarah added, “Love the square here and it is such a beautiful downtown. Being able to contribute to help keep music alive is such a worthy cause. There are just so many places to stop at and we always seem run out of time.”

Midway through the evening, Desert Financial Credit Union handed out a bunch of Christmas light necklaces that went fast. Michelle Thompson was able to get one right before they ran out. “Yeah, I got one,” she said. “These are fun to have and now maybe my friends can find me.”

There were plenty of businesses that gave out cookies to eat and coffee, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, or hot tea to wash it down. Bob Gonzales was enjoying his share of goodies. “These things right here always get me,” referring to the numerous plates of cookies at Keller Williams Reality. “I was told that they will go through 2500 hundred cookies just in this place tonight. That’s nuts.”

Many people took in the courthouse square photo ops as well. Kindness was seen as complete strangers were more than willing to help take those pictures of couples and families on this special night.

As the event came to a close and people slowly started to leave, they will no doubt take this night as another special memory of a unique musical event in our Arizona Christmas City.
