Badgers Look for 9th Win at Mingus

Photo: 32 Brody Hanna is just five tackles away from 100 in just his sophomore season

#7 Prescott Badgers (4-0), (8-1) at Mingus Marauders (0-4), (1-8), 7 pm

This is the final regular season game for the two teams and should be a time for Prescott to work on some things as they get ready for the playoffs next week.

The Badgers clinched the Grand Canyon Region title for the time since 2012 with a 35-28 win over Coconino last week. Mingus lost their fifth straight with a 42-6 loss last week in Kingman. Last season the Badgers beat Mingus 41-12, and have won five straight over the Marauders.

Quarterback Uriah Tenette has combined for 2,249 yards with 696 yards rushing and 1553 yards through the air. Adam Lloyd has 751 yards rushing to lead the team. Johann Gundermann has 21 receptions for 523 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Josiah Peoples has 19 catches for 527 yards and 6 touchdowns receiving. Each have returned a kickoff back for a touchdown, with Peoples adding one more on a punt return. Gundermann also still leads the state in punting with a 45.9 yard average.

Brody Hanna still leads the team in tackles with 95, followed by Cooper Kasun 80, and Adam Lloyd with 71. Tenette still has five interceptions, that could easily be eight, if the plays had not been voided by penalties.

Mingus has struggled this season, but it will be senior night so there should be more motivation to come out and play better. Their only win was on September 20, a 39-7 road win over Copper Canyon. They lost two others by one point, both at home, a 14-13 loss to Flagstaff, and a season opening setback to Mesquite 21-20.

The Marauders have struggled in the ground game and are averaging 21 pass attempts a game and have divided the time between their two quarterbacks. Senior Reighns Stokes and junior Dawson Rice have combined for 92 completions for 1121 yards, 9 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. Stokes leads the team in rushing with 464 yards and 3 touchdowns. The top two receivers are Koby De La Hoya and Shane Chupp. The two have caught 19 passes each and combined for 5 touchdowns. Stokes also leads the team in tackles.

Look for Prescott to come out focused and take care of business as they get ready for the playoffs next week.

Lee Williams Volunteers (1-3), (2-7) at #12 Bradshaw Mountain Bears (3-1), (6-3), 7 pm

Lee Williams is coming off just their second win of the season, a 42-6 win over Mingus. Bradshaw Mountain won at Flagstaff 43-28.

Last year the Volunteers beat the Bears 38-21 to win the Grand Canyon Region. The stakes this year are not nearly that high, but Bradshaw Mountain needs this win in order not to lose any ground in the final rankings, which come out tomorrow morning. A loss could drop the Bears two to three spots, but it is senior night and Bradshaw Mountain would like to get that bad taste out of their mouths from the lost last season.

Other games to note. Undefeated #16 Deer Valley (9-0) hosts #17 Estrella Foothills (7-2), which is basically a play-in game. #14 Coconino needs to win as they host Flagstaff, which has fallen to #23. #5 Arcadia remained undefeated after an 8-7 loss to #11 Vista Grande, after it was revealed that Vista Grande had used an ineligible player. #15 Combs gets to host the Spartans and could feel the wrath of that stunning loss. Finally, #8 Northwest Christian gets to take a trip to play #2 Yuma Catholic.
