The Prescott Badgers flag football team closed out their inaugural regular season in fine fashion with a 34-7 win over the Flagstaff Eagles on Bill Shepard Field. The win gives the number one team in Division 4A a 12-0 record and a top seed in the upcoming playoffs.
Sophomore quarterback Rianna Aguilar had a touchdown trifecta with a passing, a receiving, and a rushing score. Senior Allana Gilray had a big night rushing with 115 yards on just six carries and two touchdowns.
Gilray opened up the scoring for the Badgers with touchdown run to lead 6-0 three and a half minutes into the game.
Flagstaff picked up a couple of first downs on their opening drive, but the Prescott defense put a stop to that drive, taking the ball over on downs at their own 44 yard line.
It did not take long for the Badgers to go up 13-0 as Maggie Maneely threw a touchdown pass to Rianna Aguilar. Delainey Courtney added the extra point and it was 14-0.
Flagstaff got on the board with their only touchdown when Donna Carrasco Gonzales caught a pass from Aubrey Edgwater with 9:50 left in the second quarter to cut the Prescott lead in half at 14-7.
Aguilar connected with Marley VanWormer on a 61 yard pass play to increase the lead to 21-7.
Then Aguilar intercepted a pass that was created by pressure on the Flagstaff QB from Courtney. After the Eagles turnover Gilray scored her second touchdown on a 52 yard run for a 27-7 lead with 5:15 left in the first half.
Aguilar came up with her second interception of the game near the end of the half. A few plays later the teams headed to the locker rooms for halftime.
Maggie Maneely picked off her second pass of the night setting up the final TD.
The Badgers did that with 4:48 left in the third quarter when Aguilar called own number and ran the ball in from four yards out to make it 34-7.
Prescott will now wait to see who they will host in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday at 6 pm.
